Fordham GSE has partnered with the South Bronx Early College Academy Charter School (SBECA) Middle School to offer GSE students full-time internships.
During the year-long internship, GSE students will observe classrooms; participate in assessment, diagnosis, and intervention in one-on-one and in small group settings; co-plan and co-teach; and lead teach. The internship offers an honorarium stipend.
Applications are due June 2, 2017. Students should contact their academic advisor for details on how to apply.
The South Bronx Early College Academy Charter School (SBECA) Middle School was established in August 2015 with a mission of serving a historically underrepresented and underserved population of students. SBECA is committed to a model of project-based learning (PBL) to motivate deeper learning by engaging students with essential questions that frame the work of historians, scientists, mathematicians, and readers/writers of literature, as well as artists, musicians, and computer scientists.
SBECA will expand to grades 6-12, offering college courses in the later years of high school. By creating an exemplary model of education in the South Bronx, SBECA’s mission is also to serve as a “teaching school” in which teaching interns work side-by-side with experienced teachers to develop their practices and expand their knowledge of how learning happens in a model of guided apprenticeship.
