Program Continuously Accredited Since 1984

The American Psychological Association’s (APA) Commission on Accreditation (COA) has notified Fordham University President Joseph M. McShane of another successful completion of the accreditation process for the GSE’s doctoral PhD program in school psychology. Accreditation status has been granted through the next program site visit in 2022.

“APA accreditation is a rigorous process examining whether a program meets a comprehensive set of quality standards, and earning this accreditation has served as a continuous hallmark of excellence for the Fordham doctoral school psychology program since 1984,” noted GSE School Psychology Doctoral Program Director Dr. Abigail Harris. She added, “We are particularly pleased with the success of our efforts to reduce the median time to graduation to five years, well below the APA threshold for doctoral candidates.”

According to the APA, accreditation is granted to School Psychology programs that provide broad and general training in scientific psychology and in the foundations of practice, and those that strive to prepare students for the practice of professional psychology. The APA Commission does not accredit schools or universities, or programs at the bachelor’s or master’s levels. Accreditation applies only to programs and not to individuals.
