In an announcement March 12, U.S. News and World Report ranked the Fordham Graduate School of Education (GSE) among the top 50 graduate schools of education in the country. In a field of more than 1600 competitors, the top schools can be separated by margins of less than 1% in some categories; in the rankings just released, the GSE rose to number 39 on the list.
The most significant growth area for Fordham was in the amount of funded research per faculty member it received; this number especially stands out because it is much higher than some institutions ranked 10 or more points above the GSE. Through expanded community partnerships and research undertaken with the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) and surrounding school districts, the faculty at Fordham is making a significant impact on the future of teaching and learning.
Additionally, Fordham’s peer assessment score increased, indicating that GSE work is being seen and recognized by peer institutions and their faculty for its impact on the educational landscape.
“Our higher scores in multiple categories reinforce that our efforts and initiatives in the fields of teaching, educational leadership, psychology, and counseling are on target. We are very proud of the innovative and interdisciplinary research being done by the faculty, and welcome recognition of this work by our peers at other institutions,” expressed Virginia Roach, Ed.D., Dean of the Graduate School of Education. She added, “We are truly honored to be among the excellent institutions named to the top 50, in a very tight field of competition.”
