Fordham GSE Faculty and Students Lead Conversations on Diversity in Psychological Science at the 2024 Diversity Challenge

On Friday, September 13, and Saturday, September 14, Fordham Graduate School of Education faculty and students will proudly present at Boston College’s 2024 Diversity Challenge. The conference, Toward an Anti-Racist Psychological Science: Epistemic and Methodological Considerations, will focus on strategies to address the dominance of Whiteness in psychological science while elevating alternative racial and cultural perspectives in theory and research. Fordham presenters will explore critical intersections between culture and psychology, with a variety of insightful presentations.

  • “Examining Queer College-Aged White Women’s Experiences with Dating Applications,” by Sarah Hamilton, M.S.Ed., and Jennie Park-Taylor, Ph.D.
  • “Dancing in Duality: Gendered Racial Identity Negotiations Among White-Passing Hapa Males,” by Sarah Kinane, M.S.Ed., and Jennie Park-Taylor, Ph.D.
  • “The Shift from Commitment to Avoidance: White Counselors’ Perspectives on and Experiences with Broaching Race and Racism in Therapy,” by Stephanie L. Gutkin, Ph.D., and Jennie Park-Taylor, Ph.D.
  • “How 2nd and 1.5-Generation Korean Americans Utilized Co-Ethnic Digital Counterspaces During the COVID-19 Pandemic,” by Jocelyn Kim.
  • “The Influence of COVID-Related Stigma and Sinophobia on Asian American College Students’ Friendships and Romantic Relationships,” by Nina Shen, M.A., and Jennie Park-Taylor, Ph.D.

Katheryn Roberson-Miranda, Ph.D., along with Christopher Schutte, Maya Cottone, Ayomide Tikare, Keith Baker, Dalia Moamed, Lauren Chung, and Michael Feldheim (listed in order of authorship), will lead a symposium with three thought-provoking presentations.

  • “Culturally-Congruent Video Intervention Targeting Stigma and Help-Seeking Among Black Christians”
  • “Mental Health Beliefs Among Second-Generation Latino Men”
  • “Qualitative Investigation of Mental Health Service Recognition in Emerging Adults of Color”

This cutting-edge and nuanced research marks a powerful step toward advancing diverse perspectives in psychological science, contributing to meaningful progress in the field.
