Fordham Ranked # 3 in Nationwide Listing of Best Doctoral Programs in School Psychology

0

Fordham University has been ranked #3 among doctoral programs in School Psychology nationwide, according to data compiled by Best Counseling Degrees. The ranking methodology is based on a review of relevant, current data of each school’s overall merit, emphasizing concepts of program appeal, financing, and student success.

They began by identifying the 58 doctoral programs that are both accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). This means Fordham GSE’s programs have met the rigorous criteria and standards designed by these governing boards to ensure that their programming provides a top education for school psychology students. Attending a program with these accreditations also ensures that graduates will encounter a more streamlined process as they pursue licensure.

The Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) pass rate was gathered from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) and factored into the ranking. Fordham University’s doctoral program has an EPPP Pass Rate of 87.10%.

Fordham University offers a Ph.D. in school psychology that students can start in the summer or fall semester and students can choose to enroll in the program full-time or part-time. This program emphasizes preparing graduates to work with children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in urban settings. Students will have the opportunity to work with diverse populations as they complete their fieldwork in the New York metropolitan area.

School psychologists provide assessment, consultation, and assessment services in school settings with children, youth, families, and school professionals around issues related to learning, behavior, and mental health. They also provide prevention and intervention-focused services in hospitals, clinics, and private practice. Additionally, many school psychologists choose to pursue teaching and research positions at universities. U.S. News & World Report reported school psychologist as one of the best social service jobs.

Because of the high caliber of the schools on this list, many of them have a highly competitive application process where they accept only a handful of students annually.

The ranking, published in March 2021 by BestCounselingDegrees.net, focuses on what benefits students the most. The website is committed to guiding prospective applicants through the journey of starting a career getting on the right track in counseling and related health service psychology fields.
